History

A wave of german immigration at the mid-century gave Evansville a handful of new congregations the zion kirche was established in 1849 with thirty-five members. Only six years later, this handsome gothic revival sanctuary was erected. The church is still actively used by the Zion congregation 232 Zion Church German Ev. Fifth ST between Ingle and Bond Streets 1858 5th 233 Zion Church (German) Ev. Lutheran NE side 5th ST between Ingle & Bond 1871 - 1872 5th 238 Zion German Ev. Evangelical NE side of 5th between Ingle & Bond Streets 1905 - 1909 5th 237 Zion German Ev. Evangelical NE side of 5th ST between Ingle and Bond 1860 - 1904 5th organized jan 1 1849, outgrew log church and built present church 1855 tower with bells added later rebuilt in 1893? remodel 1953
