Near duplicate of the Schulte Residence. Imposing italianate Each featured gabled roofs and eaves brackets, ornamental window heads, a fancy veranda, and a three-story tower Together the pair of residences imparted a touch of urban flavor to the provinical Independence community. A newspaper building note in 1885 related that Reitman's ten-room house cost $12,000 and that the design and construction were carried out by the John S McCorkle planing mill company.
