History

Built 1880 for working class residents Became all black unit in 1895/late 1880s round arch entryways and tower/belfry

remodeled at some point c1892 neoclassical design

desegregated in 1968

1970 operated out of old No 1 when new No 1 was built 9 disbanded moved 1971 to new building on 8th St and gum

razed 1983
