History

Benevolent and protective order of elks sherwood hotel torn down to build new Elks Home construction began 1904 dedicated july 4 1906 decided on spot because of location and because harold van orman offered them 1500 so another hotel wouldnt compete with his mccurdy 22000 sq ft designed by chicago architect henry lord gay dorm planned 1920 (3/21/20ec +sketch) but wing never implemented

1960s downtown kill caused dwindling members article in 1967 paper indicates it was to be razed but escaped

reincarnated as Upstage Dinner Theater in July 1974

fire jan 16 1977 irreparably damaged later determined asron
